Mixed Beginner Orchestra

Ideal for young people who are currently or have recently taken part in a whole class wider opportunities programme as well as young people who have started small group instrumental lessons and know a handful of notes. The ability to read musical notation is not necessary.

If you don’t have your own instrument, please contact the Music Hub regarding hiring an instrument to use for the ensemble and to enable practice opportunities at home.

Through the course of the year, the beginner orchestra group will learn a diverse range of styles of music including pop, rock, folk and classical. They will learn pieces using musical notation as a guide.

Playing together as an orchestra with young people from different schools and backgrounds is an excellent way to make new friends and develop confidence alongside progressing their general musicianship, improvisation and note reading skills. Young people gain a wider understanding of many different styles of music, different instruments and different ways of learning a piece of music.
