Instrumental Tuition

NTMEH provides and facilitates a wide range of instrumental tuition across all school settings

including:

  • Whole Class Instrumental Tuition: takes place during timetabled music lessons and forms part of a school’s music curriculum offer.
  • Small Group Tuition: takes place during or after the school day (in agreement with all parties).
  • Individual Tuition: takes place during or after the school day (in agreement with all parties).

All instrumental lessons are delivered by our team of freelance visiting music teachers, some of whom are commissioned directly through the hub, with others directly contracted via schools and parents.

“I just wanted to express our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to both Mick Watson and Dave Jobson who have been absolutely amazing in their remote teaching. They have both totally risen to the challenge. Mick has delivered music tech lessons each week, whilst Dave has continued to teach keyboard. On two separate occasions, a member of SLT has popped into the classroom whilst they have both been teaching, and I know that they have loved the idea of our peripatetic tutors being able to offer support, not only to us, but to our students in these difficult times.”

School Based Ensembles

NTMEH facilitates a wide range of school-based lunchtime and after-school ensembles across all school settings, including choirs, guitar groups, recorder ensembles and school orchestras.

In addition, NTMEH runs a wide range of weekly ensembles and groups for young musicians to take part in as part of our NTMEH Music Centre.  These groups provide opportunities for children and young people of all ages and abilities to enjoy making music with others.

All ensembles are run by highly skilled teachers and musicians and all are free of charge. Please note that all tutors working in North Tyneside schools or leading hub activities are subject to stringent safeguarding checks and must be on North Tyneside Council’s Music Providers List. “Can I just say how fantastic it has been to have Charlotte Law working at our school? She has done an outstanding job with the children and we featured the choir in our Carol Service yesterday at Whitley Bay Baptist Church. The choir brought tears to people's eyes with their beautiful voices. Their diction was clear and they have made pleasing progress in phrasing, and singing in parts”.
