Emerging Artists Project

Emerging Artists is an inclusive project for 11 to 18 year olds who live in North Tyneside.

Emerging Artists

The project aims to develop a wide range of music and arts-based skills and to build the confidence of each young person involved.

Emerging Artists also provides opportunities to perform in the community and educational arts-based settings and to develop leadership skills.. Young people are encouraged to develop their skills and interests with the support of like-minded musicians, artists and industry specialists. There are a wide range of musical and artistic paths to follow.

“As someone who only joined recently, meeting other musicians is the best thing. Being able to collaborate with other people is very important to me. It's also given me musical goals to work towards”

Frank Cook, Standing Upright project participant

Accreditation is offered in the form of Arts Award, with the opportunity to work towards Gold Award (a Level 3 qualification that carries UCAS points).

Core members meet weekly. They also communicate between sessions via Seesaw: an online platform where they can collaborate safely with each other and project leaders / music specialists.

The project also offers holiday workshops and the opportunity to take part in performance opportunities.

Standing Upright aims to meet and walk alongside each individual young person at whatever stage they are at on their creative journey.  The project aims to enrich and spark interest in music and all art forms.

Read the latest news from the Standing Upright project on their blog here, subscribe to their YouTube channel or find them on Instagram or Twitter.

You can also listen to the latest music from young people on the project on their Soundcloud.

Standing Upright has helped raise my self confidence and has given me many amazing experiences including performing, leading projects and working at events which has led to paid work. Not only has it helped me in musical aspects, it has also helped me develop socially and emotionally on a personal level. I have built strong friendships at Standing Upright whilst having fun, gaining qualifications and experiencing incredible opportunities.

Brittany Farrow, Standing Upright Young Leader
