North Tyneside Children’s Choir
October 15, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am
FreeChildren’s choir is suitable for complete beginners to choir, or young people who already enjoying singing in choirs during school time but would like to sing even more! The North Tyneside Children’s Choir is aimed towards ages 6-11.
Over the course of the year, we will learn some effective warm up activities to look after your voice, developing good breathing techniques and extending note ranges. There will be the opportunity for smaller group singing and solo performances alongside learning to sing in harmony using rounds and partner songs initially. We prepare for a number of public performances throughout the year. This choir is led by Selwyn Thompson and Gareth Miller. Our singing is usually accompanied by piano and young people are given lyric sheets to rehearse with at home. Young people will develop their confidence both musically and socially.
Choir provides an excellent opportunity to make friends with people from other schools and different backgrounds with everyone working together towards one common goal. They will develop wider musicianship skills including pitch matching and musical expression. They will gain a deeper understanding of musical styles through the wide variety of songs we sing. As part of the North Tyneside Music Education Hub’s singing strategy we provide a number of weekly choirs and free of charge singing activities we also provide opportunities to participate in a number of local, regional and national events.
